New Caledonia restricts smoking

Smoking restrictions have come into force in New Caledonia today.

It is now forbidden to smoke in public places, affecting 380 restauranst and bars territory-wide.

An exception has been granted to casinos which have been given a two-year grace period.

France banned smoking in public places in 2007.
