Sport: Chiefs wing open to Fiji call-up...but not yet

Posted at 22:50 on 20 February, 2013 UTC

Chiefs winger Asaeli Tikoirotuma says he is open to the idea of playing for Fiji, but has no plans to run out at international level before 2015.

The 26 year old will begin his second season of Super Rugby on Friday night, after cementing a starting place during last year’s title-winning campaign.

Tikoirotuma has lived in New Zealand since moving to Wanganui as a teenager but says he’s keen to represent his country of birth at the next World Cup if he’s still available.

“I won’t be playing for Fiji this year or next year but I will be looking to gain more experience and try and play for them on World Cup if I’m still available for that. I was talking with my agent and with family. I’m aiming for the next World Cup to play for Fiji but, other than that, if anything comes up in the near future I’ll probably take what’s on offer.”
