Hearing of asylum seekers riot case on Nauru deferred again

14 of 15 asylum seekers facing charges of rioting and causing property damage at Nauru’s detention camp last September have had their hearing adjourned again by two weeks, to the 18th of February.

They were due in court on Monday but their lawyer had to fly to Fiji to attend to urgent family business.

The men, all Iranians, are charged with rioting and causing damage estimated at 24,000 US dollars.

One of the 15 charged is in Australia receiving medical treatment.
