Financial woes delay Vanuatu students’ departure

Posted at 23:05 on 27 January, 2013 UTC

The Vanuatu government has delayed the departure abroad of the university students it sponsors because of financial problems.

Ni-Vanuatu students due to leave for Fiji at the end of last week were told to wait until the end of the month.

The students say they have their air tickets but cannot travel without being given their allowances.

Students to be sent to New Caledonia have also been delayed.

The scholarship office says Vanuatu still owes more than one million US dollars to different universities for 2012.
