Warnings still in force as Cyclone Garry by-passes Samoa

Storm and strong wind warnings remain in place for Samoa as Cyclone Garry moves eastwards and away.

There were fears the cyclone would hit Samoa, sparking evacuations and closing down the capital overnight.

The Assistant CEO for Meteorology Division, Mulipola Ausetalia Titimaea, says on its current track, the cyclone won’t make landfall on any of Samoa’s islands.

“But it’s not affecting any of the land areas as we speak, but if it makes a south east path as predicted, there might be winds for American Samoa side, especially the Manu’a islands.”

Samoa is still recovering and rebuilding from Cyclone Evan in December, that caused millions of dollars in damage.
