A month after Evan, Fiji takes on more teams to restore electricity

Fiji’s National Disaster Management Office says more teams have been mobilised to the Western division to help restore power.

It’s been more than a month since tropical cyclone Evan hit Fiji but 15 percent of the Western Division is still without power.

The Office director, Manasa Tagicakibau, says the Electricity Authority is dealing with extensive damage.

“Most of the power poles were broken during the cyclone. It is the erecting of these poles and putting back of the wires and checking all the safety procedures before they can put it back on and that takes quite some time to work on.”

Manasa Tagicakibau says according to the Electricity Authority power in the west won’t be fully restored for another 10 to 15 days.
