Palau recovering after Typhoon Bopha

Palau is slowly recovering - a week after the damage caused by Typhoon Bopha.

Electricity has been restored to most of the country with only a few small islands still in the dark.

Damage to cellular sites has been repaired, and mobile communications are up and running.

No casualties have been reported and authorities are now working to prevent the outbreak of disease.

Five million US dollars was appropriated for relief efforts, but authorities predict a much larger amount may be needed.

The co-ordinator for the relief efforts Dr Patrick Tellei is optimistic for a full recovery:

“Our effort is to restore what we lost, repair what was damaged so that the people of Palau can begin to rebuild their lives.”
