Australian company to investigate geothermal electricity possibilities in PNG

The Australian geothermal developer KUTh Energy has applied for mineral exploration licences in Papua New Guinea.

The company recently signed agreement’s with PNG company Kula Energy that will allow it to advance its geothermal projects there.

KUTh’s managing director David McDonald says the initial aim is to determine what activity is present.

He says they will then develop an appropriate geothermal programme.

“There are many uses in which hot water and steam can be put to use and that doesn’t mean just in power, so many people use it for drying copra and many other direct use applications so I guess we’re going to look at that and determine what benefits it can bring to the local community.”
