Samoa has risen to second equal in the IRB World Sevens Series after beating New Zealand in the final of the Dubai tournament at the weekend.
It’s Samoa’s first tournament win since Las Vegas 10 months ago and moves them behind NZ, and alongside Fiji and Kenya in the series standings.
Captain Afa Aiono says it was a great effort.
“We’ve achieved what we’ve been aiming for - to win our first Cup ever in Dubai. New Zealand they’re a pretty good team but our boys they step up and they played their hearts out.”
The World Series now heads to South Africa this weekend before taking a break over summer.
