New American Samoa governor calls for audit of government books

American Samoa’s Governor-elect Lolo Matalasi Moliga has asked the Department of Interior to conduct a comprehensive financial audit of all government finances.

Lolo says as he and Lieutenant Governor-elect Lemanu Peleti Mauga prepare to assume the leadership of American Samoa, they want to get a clear picture of the financial status of the Government.

He said they suspect the government’s financial condition is fragile and delaying strategies to address this would only exacerbate the financial instability.

Lolo says while audits have been conducted over the years, they are not confident that those audits accurately depict the true financial status of the government.
