Doctor in Samoa in custody after appeal over assault conviction fails

A doctor in Samoa, Le Mamea Emosi Puni, has been remanded in police custody until the 12th of December after the Court of Appeal rejected his bid for an indecent assault conviction to be overturned.

Dr Puni, an obstetrician, formerly headed the Medcen Hospital.

Earlier this year he was convicted of indecently assaulting a female patient but had appealed.
