The Fiji Trades Union Congress is critical of the interim government’s failure to acknowledge the efforts of the public service.
This follows last week’s speech by the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, who labelled some civil service workers corrupt and incompetent.
The National Secretary for the Congress, Felix Anthony, says significant changes are needed to restore confidence among workers:
“Government has an obligation to restore the rights of workers, civil servants within the government, to restore the entitlements they had prior to the imposition of the decrees. That would be one positive move that would maybe see a change in the morale of the civil service.”
