Samoa university students allowed to sit exams despite unpaid fees

The 327 university students in Samoa who told over a week ago they could not sit their end of the year exams, have now been recalled to sit them.

The government and the National University Council reached a compromise on unpaid school fees after several parents sought assistance from the government and the opposition.

The Vice-Chancellor, Leapai Dr Asofou So’o, told parents and students in a meeting yesterday the unpaid fees should be paid by next Tuesday, before the exams on Wednesday.

However he says students can still sit the exams but their results will not be released if their fees are not paid.

Our correspondent says the decision will not delay the university’s graduation scheduled for next month on the 11th and 18th December 2012.
