Fiji’s drowning toll for 2012 has risen to 55 after two children died on the same day at the weekend.
The Fiji Sun reports the death toll from drowning at the same time last year was 30.
One incident involved a ten-year-old student at the Vitogo River in Lautoka, while the other victim was a six-year-old who drowned in the Waidina River in Naitasiri.
The police have reminded people to closely supervise children, especially those under the age of ten.
