The government of the Northern Mariana islands is investigating claims the legendary US aviator Amelia Earhart is buried there.
In 1937, Earhart took off from Papua New Guinea, on what was to be the last leg of the first around-the-world flight by a female aviator - but she was never seen again.
It is reported an 81-year-old American war veteran has identified her grave.
The government’s Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, says it is investigating the veteran’s claim, but says it will seek an earthmoving permit in a couple of weeks.
