Nauru gets more health aid from Taiwan

The Nauru Government says Taiwan has doubled it health aid to the island.

It is providing a medical team, including an obstetrician, who will take up a five year appointment from March next year.

A mobile medical team is also to visit three times a year, instead of twice a year.

Nauru’s new health minister, Valdon Dowiyogo says having the medical team with an obstetrician on island is vital to the health and wellbeing of the women of Nauru.

Meanwhile the minister has opened a new maternity facility at the hospital, which extends capacity by 150 percent.

He says annual births in the ward are exceeding 300 so the extra space is valuable.
