Tonga parliament chooses Lasike as speaker

The House has unanimously elected Noble Lasike as the new Speaker.

He was the only contender after being nominated by the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands.

He was the deputy speaker and replaces Noble Tu’ilakepa, who is facing firearms charges

The deputy speaker is Noble Tu’i’afitu, a newcomer from the Vava’u Nobles’ representatives and a Free Wesleyan church minister.
