American Samoa’s Election Office has released the official list of candidates for the 2010 elections.
Last minute filers had the Election Office staff working late into the night verifying their eligibility.
Our correspondent in American Samoa, Monica Miller reports.
“For the Congressional election, the three candidates are Eni Faleomavaega, Aumua Amata and Tuika Tuika. For the election of the American Samoa House of Representatives 44 candidates are vying for the 20 seats to be elected by popular vote. One of the incumbent members of the House, Gafatasi Atualevao Afalava of District 17 is not on the list. Two incumbent members for Tuala-uta, Larry Sanitoa and Galu Satele Jr. have been returned unopposed. There are three women running: Meleagi Suitonu Chapman in District 1 Manu’a, Fiasili Puni Haleck in Pago Pago and Solagailuia Solaita in Ituau District 12.
