Major malaria study to be carried out in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea

A major malaria research project will be carried out in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.

The Solomons Star reports that Case Western Reserve University in the United States has received a 7.9 million US dollar grant to carry out the study.

The seven-year grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is aimed at helping speed up the control of malaria and eliminate its prevalence around the world.

The research will look at how programmes to control and eradicate malaria in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands affects malaria’s pathway, epidemiology and transmission by mosquitoes.
