A benefit concert is be held in Tahiti at the end of next week for those who suffered from Cyclone Oli which hit French Polynesia’s Austral islands last week.

The worst hit island was Tubuai, where about half of the houses were destroyed.

Relief efforts are in full swing, with the French armed forces flying in supplies although reports say there have been problems in coordinating help as some people are still short of fresh water.

In Paris, assistance is being readied to restore basic services, with the overseas territories minister also saying that funds will be released to affected families to buy basic appliances.
