American Samoa Chamber of Commerce urges members to report price gouging

The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce has urged its members and the business community to report to investigators any instances of price gouging.

The call came from the Chamber’s president, David Robinson, as the second case of post-tsunami price gouging went before the District Court yesterday.

Two Asian store managers were charged with raises prices more than 10 percent after the September 29 tsunami and the Governor’s subsequent declaration of a state of emergency.

Mr Robinson says price gouging is not only illegal but it hurts the economy as well as consumers, many of whom are still recovering from the disasters.
