Another journalist had been detained in Fiji over reports published in an Australian newspaper.

Pita Ligaiula, who writes for the news agency Pacnews, and is a correspondent for AAP, was taken into custody by 2 police officers and a senior Ministry of Information official around midday yesterday.

Matai Akauola, from the Pacific Islands News Association, says they said a report in an Australian paper with Mr Ligaiula’s byline was in breach of the current emergency regulations.

He says he has met ministry of information staff, and is working with them to have Mr Ligaiula released.

Representatives of the international media in Fiji, including Pacnews, Islands Business, and Radio New Zealand International have met with Ministry officials.
