Rewa Council in Fiji urges politically motivated vandals to consider consequences

Fiji’s Rewa Provincial council is urging those involved in politically motivated vandalism to think about the consequences of their actions.

Two more attacks at the weekend, involving bottles filled with kerosene, are the latest in a spate of politically motivated vandalism attacks.

Ro Teimumu Kepa, the Rewa High Chief, says she’s concerned the vandalism has escalated from stone throwing.

She is urging the attackers to think about what could happen.

“We’ve heard that some are saying they’re just carrying out orders. But these orders have been given to people who are supposed to have brains and they should think twice about the orders that are given to them and think of the consequences that might happen”

Teimumu Kepa says the council is pleading with the people apparently giving the orders to allow people the freedom to speak out.

She says that right is provided for in the constitution, which the military and interim government say is still intact.
