Molotov cocktail attacks in Fiji on homes of high profile individuals

Posted at 17:03 on 22 March, 2009 UTC

Police in Fiji say the kerosene bombs aimed at the homes of two high-profile men were designed to kill.

The attacks were aimed at a former senior army officer Colonel Sakiusa Raivoce, who is now head of the security staff recruitment agency, Global Risks, and at the Fiji Times editor-in-chief Netani Rika.

This is the second attack on Mr Rika’s property in just less than two weeks.

Mr Rika told Fijilive that at least three home-made bombs carried in beer bottles filled with kerosene, were thrown at his house windows in Nasese.

At Colonel Raivoce’s house in Namadi Heights, two similar home-made bombs were thrown inside his living room.

Police have not ruled out the possibility that the bombings are linked to a series of attacks against individuals who have spoken out on the political front.
