PNG police move to crack down on unethical officers

The police in Papua New Guinea are trying to clamp down on unethical practices within the Constabulary.
The Director of Internal Affairs Chief Superintendent, John Maru, says teams from the directorate have been established in Lae, Mount Hagen and Kokopo.
He says in the first week of the operation, a policeman has been cited for unethical conduct and is being investigated for threatening a member of the public with a firearm.
Two reservists have also been charged with illegally collecting fines at a road block.
Superintendent Maru says the Police Commissioner Gari Baki has declared 2009 as the year of discipline.
He says the operation will be expanded progressively throughout the country in the New Year.
