Hawaii’s Office of Consumer Protection reaches settlement

Hawaii’s Office of Consumer Protection, along with almost 40 other states, have reached a 12 million US dollar settlement with a major toy maker company.

In the settlement agreement, Mattel is to pay the U.S. states involved by 30 January 2009.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the company had to recall around 2 million Mattel and Fisher-Price toys made in China, after allegations that the toys contained excessive lead in the paint.

In a press statement, Mattel said they were pleased to have worked with the attorney generals of all the states involved to reach an agreement and to enhance the safety of children.
