Taiwan is sending an 80 member group to the Pacific Arts Festival next month.
Taiwan has been pushing for greater involvement in Pacific Forum countries aiming for recognition from island countries which have formerly dealt only with China.
The Co Chair of the Arts Festival Committee, Leala Elisara, says the Pacific Community left it up to the hosts of the festival to decide Taiwan’s request to be part of the festival.
The local organising committee has approved Taiwan’s request and will be one of the official participants.
Mrs Elisara said this will be the first time that Taiwan will be included in the Pacific Arts Festival.
It had first applied to perform at the festival in Townsville Australia but was denied.
