American Samoa’s Inter Island Airways allowed into Samoa temporarily

American Samoa’s Inter Island Airways has resumed flights to and from Faleolo International Airport in Samoa after being granted an extension of 30 days by the Samoa government.

The Pago Pago based carrier halted flights temporarily after landing rights were denied by the Samoa government because Inter Island hadn’t obtained certification to become a scheduled flight airline in a certain time frame.

Va’aelua Nofo Va’aelua, chief executive officer of Samoa’s Ministry of Transport, says the ministry has approved a one month extension to the airline’s Foreign Air Operator Certificate.

He says a meeting sometime this month between officials of Samoa and the U.S. Transportation Department will discuss and outstanding issues concerning Inter Island, who has been urged to be pro-active in facilitating this meeting.
