International conman Peter Foster remained handcuffed to his Fiji hospital bed last night guarded by two members of the police Tactical Response Unit.
Fiji TV says Fosters dramatic capture while trying to evade arrest became headline news around the world and overseas media covering the Pacific Forum in Nadi were re-assigned to Suva to report the new story.
Foster has been under close observation at Suva’s Colonial war memorial Hospital where Dr Ifireimi Waqainabete says he is in stable condition.
Dr Waqainabete says Foster’s injuries are consistent with a police statement that he was hit by a boat propeller as he dived in the Deuba River to escape.
Foster is likely to be discharged today when police will question him for three separate crimes in Fiji.
Foster’s work permit was cancelled when it was found to have been obtained by filing false information and his status is now that of an illegal immigrant.
