First Pacific Island woman appointed to ICJ

A Pacific Islander has been appointed to the International Commission of Jurists for the first time in 20 years.

Imrana Jalal is also the first pacific island woman to be appointed to the commission.

Ms Jalal is a Human Rights Adviser at the Pacific Refgional Rights Resource Team and member of the Fiji Womens Rights Movement.

Ms Jalal says she aims to give the commission a fresh perspective through the eyes of the Pacific.

The ICJ is an international NGO set up to give legal advice and report on international law and human rights.
