Robbery complaint against Fiji politician’s son

A Suva man who had lodged a complaint with the police against the son of an unnamed prominent politician for an alleged case of robbery with violence is claiming his life is now under threat.

Fiji TV says taxi driver Rajendra Kumar has lodged a fresh complain with the police that he was stabbed by a group of men in the capital on Monday.

Last night Fiji TV showed pictures of the six stitches Mr Kumar needed after the stabbing, although not his face because he fears for his life.

Mr Kumar says the thugs warned him not to raise his complaint about the prominent politician’s son again in public.

Mr Kumar had identified the son as one of two men who had attacked and robbed him in September last year.

In response to media queries about why the politician’s son was not prosecuted, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said earlier this year that there was insufficient evidence to lay charges.

But Mr Kumar’s lawyer, Savenaca Komaisavai, says he will ask the DPP to consider re-opening the file.
