Papua illegal miners use arrows in clash with Indonesian police

Illegal miners, equipped with bows and arrows, yesterday wounded two security guards at the Freeport gold and copper mine in Indonesia’s remote Papua province.
A Papua police spokesman, Kartono Wangsadisastra, says the guards along with soldiers, policemen and other government officials tried to force around 100 illegal miners out of the mine before the situation spun out of control.
He says the illegal miners then became angry and threw things at the officials, with the two security guards being hit by arrows.
The policeman says the illegal miners also blocked a road demanding to meet the chief executive at Freeport.
