Closure of Niue News Weekly website disappointing to Niuean community abroad

The closure of the Niue News Weekly website is disappointing to the Niuean community in New Zealand.

A member of the community says Niueans abroad relied on the site for independent news and stories which weren’t available from government sources.

The editor of the website, Stafford Guest, says it’s closed down because he’s moved to New Zealand and the expenses involved in gathering news while off island have become too high to warrant the site continuing.

He says the newssite had remained independent and all contributors worked voluntarily.

Mr Guest says they’ve never received any funding for the website.
