A former deputy prime minister in Fiji, Adi Kuini Speed, dies after battle with cancer

One of Fiji’s former deputy prime ministers, Adi Kuini Speed, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Radio Australia reports that she was 55.

Adi Kuini was a career civil servant who left the Public Service Commission in 1989 as Acting Director Personnel.

In 1998, she led the Fijian Association Party in a coalition government with the Fiji Labour Party and the PANU parties.
