The funeral of Fiji’s former deputy prime minister, Adi Kuini Speed, took place yesterday.

She was 55, when she died at her private estate in Suva after a long battle with cancer over the New Year weekend.

Adi Kuini was a civil servant before she led the Fijian Association Party in a coalition government with the Fiji Labour Party and the PANU parties.

She was also a Navosa high chief and Fijian Affairs minister, and was tipped to be Fiji’s first female Prime Minsiter.

Adi Kuini was laid to rest in her chiefly village, in Korolevu.
